Frequently Asked Questions About Countertops

What's the difference between butcher block, quartz, and granite?

Butcher block is solid wood, bringing a warm, natural look to your kitchen and the option to sand out scratches over time. Quartz is an engineered stone made from crushed quartz and resin, giving you a nonporous, low-maintenance surface with a consistent pattern. Granite is a natural stone with one-of-a-kind veining and coloring in every slab, prized for its heat resistance and durability.

How do I choose the right countertop material for my kitchen?

It comes down to how you use your kitchen, how much maintenance you want to take on, and the look you're going for. We'll walk you through samples and talk through your budget and lifestyle so you land on a material you'll love living with.

Which countertop material holds up best over time?

Quartz tends to be the lowest-maintenance, most consistent performer since it's nonporous and never needs sealing. Granite is extremely hard and holds up well with occasional resealing. Butcher block is durable too, and unlike stone, surface wear can be sanded and refinished.

Does butcher block require special care and maintenance?

Yes. Butcher block needs periodic oiling to stay protected, and spills should be wiped up quickly to prevent water damage. The upside is that nicks and scratches can be sanded out, so it can look new again for years to come.

Are quartz and granite resistant to heat, scratches, and stains?

Quartz is highly scratch and stain resistant since it's nonporous, though we still recommend a trivet for very hot pans. Granite is naturally heat resistant and very hard, but as a natural stone it benefits from periodic sealing to stay stain resistant.

How long does countertop fabrication and installation take?

After templating your kitchen, fabrication typically takes one to three weeks depending on the material and shop schedule. Installation itself is usually completed in a single day.

Do you handle both the fabrication and the installation?

Yes. We manage the entire process from material selection through fabrication and final installation, so you have one point of contact the whole way through.

What areas do you serve?

We're based in Indianapolis and serve homeowners throughout the surrounding area.
